SOCIAL COMMENTARY by KD
If your desire to do something is complete, if your whole being is in it without seeking a result, without wanting to fulfill –which means without fear- then there is no hindrance. It is only when your desire is incomplete, broken up: you want to do something and at the same time you are afraid to do it, or you half want to do something else. Besides, can you ever fully realize your desires?
Society, which is the collective relationship between humans, does not want you to have a complete desire, because if you did you would be a nuisance, a danger to society. You are only permitted to have respectable desires like ambition, or envy. Society is always watching to prevent you from completing an expression of your total being, and in its way a revolutionary force. The action of being is entirely different from that of becoming. The becoming and thwarted desire fulfills the social contract with such force that it exposes how threatening the one being actually is.
So, if you are dull, don’t try to be intelligent or clever, but understand what it is that is making you dull. Imitation, fear, copying somebody, following an example or an ideal. When you stop following , when fear is at bay, clarity and truth follow. Unless you are properly educated, unless you have this extraordinary confidence of innocence, you will be lost in mediocrity. You will put some letters after you name, you will be married, have children, and that will be the end of you. So remember, most of us are frightened. Your parents are frightened, your teachers, your governments are frightened of you becoming a total individual, because they all want you to remain safely within the prison of environmental and cultural influences. Does this mean you should embrace others, foreign they might seem, and embrace the weaknesses in yourself with the same fire that you take advantage of your strengths? You bet it does!!...start pirating everything!

PAP doesnt like you becoming an individual. They might jail you and throw away the keys. AND they will malign you in our favourite straits times newpaper (which is ranked right next to Iraq in the World Press Freedom ranking. woohoo. we're 10 countries in front of IRAN. yippee). They would like all females to stay home and pop out babies and all males to impregnate their females so that their females can stay home and pop out babies. If you get locked up, we cant go to the mauritius.

we only have time to feel this way because out stomachs are filled and our basics needs are met, so thank God we have the capacity to contemplate on dese issues of self actualization.
we all make up society - u, me. saying society doesnt want us to become individuals is like saying u and me dun want each other to become individuals. is that true? but what does it mean to be consumed by desire totally? is tt allowing our self, the whole sinful self to be let loose?
i think social 'controls' to some extent are healthly. if not for legal controls, we wud all be at risk. if not for some form of social control or taboo, u will have others doing embarassing things tt inflicts on others.
thus, its not realli an issues of whether social controls are good or bad in allowing us in being individuals, its how we balance authoritharism and freedom, and who decides when is the time individuals are mature enough to make decisions tt are fulfilling to the self but not detrimental to the rest of society. :)
